Thistledown Country House has become known for its hospitality, fine food and comfortable accommodation.
Originally part of Colbourne Farm, the house was the second to be built on the property around 1937. It is literally the house that Jack built, as it was built by Jack Shaw, one of four Springbok polo-playing brothers who lived in the Karkloof at the time. This farmstead has been renovated so that there are now five comfortable, en-suite bedrooms.
Over the years, Thistledown Country House has become known for its memorable meals.
Although cosmopolitan in nature, there are strong Japanese influences in many of the dishes. It is essential for those who wish to have lunch or dinner at Thistledown to book. There is a fixed menu (three or four courses) and we are able to cater for groups of between 20 and 50 people.
During the winter months, a log-fire is lit in the lounge and it is a welcome refuge from the bracingly cold weather.
Thistledown Country House is just one and a half hours away from Durban and four and a half from Johannesburg.
